In April 2025, during the 221st session of the UNESCO Executive Board held in Paris, France, the Chongqing Yunyang Geopark was officially designated as a UNESCO Global Geopark, marking the first such title awarded to a site in Chongqing. The Yunyang Geopark is distinguished by its Middle Jurassic dinosaur fossil clusters, which trace the evolutionary history of Asian Jurassic dinosaurs and fill critical gaps in the global dinosaur evolutionary sequence, underscoring its profound international scientific significance.
